‘Controversies around Dargah Sharif threatening India’s peace’

Ajmer: Ajmer Sharif Dargah's Gaddi Nashin, Syed Afsan Chishty, condemned the ongoing controversy surrounding the Dargah on Thursday, underlining that the communal harmony of country should not be affected in any manner. This comes after a lower court accepted a petition submitted by Hindu Sena, claiming that Ajmer Sharif Dargah is Lord Shiva's temple.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Chishty said that the followers of Khawaja Gharib Nawaz are spread across world, and they come from not only Islam but every religion. "I say this with great sadness and surprise that the court has accepted a claim that has no substance... Our country is huge and the nation is above everyone else. Whoever is doing all this to impact the peace of India should be deterred from this. Khawaja Gharib Nawaz's followers are spread across the world. His followers are not only in Islam but in every religion. Even PM Narendra Modi sends chadar on His Urs every year. The Prime Ministers before him also did the same," he said.

The spiritual Head of the Dargah, Syed Zainul Abedin Ali Khan said that it is "not right to create such controversies." "It is not right to create such controversies. The majority of population is Hindu. Even outside the dargah, there are shops by Hindus. They keep their keys outside the dargah and open their shops. This tradition is still prevalent today," Darghah's spiritual leader said. The spiritual leader said that this place is such that people of every religion come here, including PM Modi. "Be it a leader, CM, Governor, an actor, and the 'chaadar' of the Prime Minister is also presented here. Apart from this, RSS chaadar is also presented on behalf of Indresh Kumar and people of every religion come here. The faith of all people is connected," he said.
