PERFORMING ART

The Jaipur Theatre Fest’22 organised by Taramani Foundation in collaboration with JKK witnessed its fourth day on Thursday. The drama ‘Agarbatti’ by Swati Dubey, staged by Samagam Rangmandal, Jabalpur in Krishnayan, showed how the government created an incense stick factory to rehabilitate the widows of the slaughtered Thakurs in Behmai. Lala Ram Thakurain saved the last rite ritual to liberate her husband’s ashes via water until she killed the jailed ‘Bandit Queen’ of Chambal, and she organised everyone with the help of Kalli. Damayanti sparked a debate about why all those killed were men and not women. The second play that drew the audience’s attention was Padmashree Vidushi Rita Ganguly’s ‘Abhijnana Shakuntalam,’ which was written by Kavi Kalidasa and produced in Rangayan. The play was about King Dushyanta who was out hunting in deep woods and came across Shakuntala in a hermitage and tried to win her love. He returned to the capital and instructed the girl to follow him.
