Lovestory 'UnWoman' on Jio Cinema shines light on human connection beyond gender norms

In a refreshing departure from the norm, the Hindi film "Unwoman" a film-festival favourite is garnering attention for its poignant portrayal of love transcending societal norms after its recent streaming on Jio Cinemas. Produced by Gunjan Goel under the banner of Hashtag Films LLP, and directed by Pallavi Roy Sharma the movie is a love story challenging stereotypes surrounding the LGBTQ community.

Unlike conventional narratives, "Unwoman" delves into the bond between a transgender/ intersex individual, Sanwri, and a man named Bhanwar who are brought together by destiny and are stuck in a strange situation.
Written by Susheel Sharman and Pallavi Roy Sharma again, and co-produced by Shalmali Prakash, the film captures the film has many warm moments, rustic humour and transports audience into the beautiful settings of rural Rajasthan.

Revolving around the custom of buying bride, the film follows Bhanwar, a simple man whose life is controlled by his uncle, Bhairo. Pressured by Bhairo to improve their living conditions, Bhanwar unwittingly purchases Sanwri from a human trafficker. However, what begins as a transactional relationship evolves into a profound love story, as Sanwri's gentle nature touches Bhanwar's heart.

As their bond deepens, tensions escalate with Bhairo's exploitation of Sanwri for his own gains. The film bravely confronts the prejudices, mockery, and taboos faced by individuals like Sanwri, and also highlights how even Men are vulnerable and victim of society’s judgmental glare.

With stellar performances by Bhagwan Tiwari as Bhairo, Kanak Garg as Sanwri, and Sarthak Narula as Bhanwar, "Unwoman" promises to spark conversations about the complexities of love and identity. Supported by a talented cast including Karan Maan, Girish Pal Singh, and Pramod Deswal, the film offers a nuanced portrayal of human relationships.

Gunjan Goel's production of "Unwoman" is a testament to the power of cinema in challenging stereotypes and fostering empathy. By portraying the love between Sanwri and Bhanwar as inherently normal, the film encourages viewers to embrace diversity and celebrate the beauty of love in all its forms.
