Nikamma- A CHOICE

Ever since the movie theatres have come back to normal screenings of big-budget Bollywood movies halted due to novel coronavirus, the year has been a huge hit for cinema. Speaking of movies, the latest is the release of the much-talked-about movie, Nikamma. An action-thriller dramedy starring Shilpa Shetty in the pivotal role while Abhimanyu Dasani and Shirley Setia are the lead actors of the movie.

Ahead of the release, a press conference was held in the state capital on Saturday, June 10. The conference was held in the presence of movie director Sabbir Khan, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota fame Abhimanyu Dasani and Youtube sensation Shirley Setia at Hotel Hyatt Regency, Lucknow.

On breaking her 14- year hiatus from acting with Nikamma, Shilpa Shetty said, “Having done 65-something roles in my acting career, the role of ‘Avni’ seemed like one genre that was not done by me before. Nikamma, I think is the perfect movie to make a comeback with as it's a wholesome movie where my character is strong, opinionated and represents women's power.”

Abhimanyu Dasani, famous for 'Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota' and the protagonist of Nikamma talked about hefty dialogues in the movie and said, "The heavy dialogues like, ‘Jeet to me tabhi gaya tha jab mene soch liya tha’ and others were the toughest to master. The movie has elements like action and thrill which requires dialogue to have certain conviction and realness and Sabbir sir made us deliver them until they were perfect.”

Talking about the movie, director Sabbir Khan said, “Nikamma is a package. It caters to a wide range of audiences, from young to more senior age groups. It has action-packed scenes for a thriller experience whereas it also offers a romance element between Shirley (Setia) and Abhimanyu (Dasani). And since the movie is mostly based in Lucknow, it's a visual treat for Lucknowites as well.”

Shirley Setia, the lead actress in Nikamma, a YouTube star, talked about her transition into mainstream Bollywood.

Setia said, “I've wanted to be an actress and what better opportunity to do that than Nikamma. The news about being in such a great career-defining movie was kept hush for the longest until the announcement.
