Evening of versatile soothing music!

India Habitat Centre was rich on Indian classical music which paid tribute to a legendary soul Ustad Sabri Khan on Thursday. He made musical instrument called Sarangi popular worldwide. Hosted by Saurang Sangeet Society, the evening Saurang Festival featured the Sarangi recital by Ustad Kamal Sabri, vocals by Pt Anand Thakore and Sitar recital by Pt Shubhendra Rao.

The artists paid their tribute to Ustad Sabri Khan celebrating his birth anniversary. The musical program commenced with a Sarangi recital by Ustad Kamal Sabri where he presented a bandish in Raga Poorvi. His recital was followed by Pt Anand Thakore’s compositions in Raga Bhoop. Pt Shubhendra Rao presented Raga Rageshwari. The performances wooed the audience during the program. Ustad Kamal Sabri, the founder of Saurang Sangeet Society and son of Ustad Sabri Khan said,

“The motto of the evening was to remember the legend Ustad Sabri Khan by spreading awareness about the rich cultural heritage of music. We wish to spread the harmony of Indian classical music to our patrons.” Secretary General, Election Commission of India, Umesh Sinha was the chief guest while Jaya Sinha, Santosh Ajmera, Director, ECI with wife Sikha Ajmera, Abdul Adil, Chief Air Advisor, Pakistan High Commission with wife Faiza Adil and his son Mohammad Nosharwan Adil, Poet KK Daruwala, Anand Khanna, Sanjeev Rishi and Savita Rishi were also present.
