A TRIBUTE TO BOSE...

Cuttack, January 23, 1897. Janki Nath, a prominent Bengali lawyer and his wife Prabhavati Bose gave birth to their ninth child among fourteen, who would usher in a revolution in British India.

At a young age, Subhash Chandra Bose, who excelled in his studies was impacted by Swami Vivekanand’s philosophy.

Influenced by nationalist ideology, he rebelled against a professor who slandered his country and being deeply disturbed by the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre, left the Civil Services apprenticeship midway in 1921, London.

In 1928, Congress’s Motilal Nehru Committee recommended Domination Status but Bose opposed it, declaring that he would be satisfied with nothing less than complete independence for India.

Bose and Hitler came in touch and Hitler, impressed by his conviction and nationalism, lent his support through his ally, Japan.

Bose assisted Japan in defeating Singapore, liberating 45000 Indian soldiers from British control and organised the Azad Hind Fauj.

Bose, a resolute man who travelled to the far reaches of the globe to fight for his country’s freedom, met heads of state from various governments and convinced them of his sincerity to lead his country to freedom, is indeed a fascinating story.

Clement Richard Attlee the British Prime Minister between 1945 and 1951, who signed off on the decision to grant India independence visited India in 1956 and stayed in Kolkata as a guest of the then-Governor PB Chakraborthy.

In his memoirs, governor Chakraborthy stated that Atlee once said that the erosion of loyalty to the British crown among Indian forces as a result of Netaji’s military activities shook them, and Gandhi’s influence on the British decision was “Minimal.”

On August 18, 1945, Subhas Chandra Bose was reportedly killed in an air crash over Taipeh, Taiwan.

Though it is widely assumed that he survived the plane crash, little information about him has been discovered.

Although Netaji is not amongst us today, he will always be reign over us as a patriotic icon.
