Reflecting on their numerous memorable partnerships and shared moments, Kohli emphasised Dhoni’s unique approach to chasing targets, often taking the game deep and finishing dramatically. “People used to say the same about Mahi bhai...but how many matches did he finish for India!” Kohli added, acknowledging Dhoni’s unmatched finishing prowess.

THE LEGEND’S POTENTIAL FAREWELL

As Dhoni nears 43, with a persistent knee issue, retirement speculations are rife. Over the last two seasons, he has dismissed talks of retirement, but the physical toll is evident. His recent performances, though still impactful, reflect the wear and tear of an illustrious career.

Former Australian cricketer and CSK teammate Matthew Hayden believes this may indeed be Dhoni’s final season as a player. “I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t mentor or be a part of the family of CSK in an official capacity,” Hayden stated on Star Sports Cricket Live, suggesting that Dhoni’s association with CSK might continue off the field.

In contrast, Ambati Rayudu, another former teammate, is optimistic about Dhoni’s return. “I don’t think this is his last game... He just wanted to qualify and finish on a high,” Rayudu remarked, noting Dhoni’s frustration after the recent loss. Rayudu also highlighted the impact player role, which could allow Dhoni to contribute without the full physical demands of regular play.
