HC stays bypolls to 3 JMCG seats, next hearing on Nov 15

Jaipur: The three Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater councillors, who were sacked after a dispute between the then Mayor Dr Somya and the then Commissioner Yagyamitra Singh Deo, got a big relief from the Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday. The court has stayed the bypolls for three weeks on the three seats. A single bench of Justice Mahendra Goel gave this decision. Senior advocate RN Mathur appeared on behalf of the sacked councilors. It is noteworthy that on October 13, the Rajasthan Government had written a letter to the Election Department for the by-elections on the vacant seats in the state bodies. Four seats of Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation were also included in this. These included the seats of sacked mayor Dr Somya and councilors Shankar Sharma, Ajay Rathore and Paras Jain. After the controversy, all of them were sacked by the government and disqualified from contesting elections for six years. The next hearing of the case will now take place on November 15.
