EXCLUSIVE! Nia Sharma: My life hasn’t been a bed of roses

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Actress Nia Sharma can be considered one of the boldest personalities on screen. She has never shied away from wearing what she wants, speaking her mind and shutting trolls through her extensive work. The actress will next be seen in the music video for the song ‘Paisa Paisa’ alongside singers Amit Majithia and LOC Starboy. Nia sat down with First India for #UnfilteredBaat-Chit about her life as an actress, controversies and more.

Opening up on how she is outside the limelight, Nia revealed, “There is no façade attached to my life. I do not live with a pompous attitude or much flamboyance. If you ever google my name, you won’t find many good things but my life is not how it is portrayed. What I do when I am glammed up or in front of the camera are very different things. That is not the reality that I like to live in. I am just a girl who wants to make a mark for herself and build a nice life.”

On whether her portrayal as a sex symbol sidelining her work in the media ever bothers her, Nia said, “As long as they are writing about me, I am not bothered. It is a fortunate thing. Going totally unnoticed would have hurt more. But people do write some demeaning things regarding my clothes and more. But I just take it with a pinch of salt and move on.”

Recalling a recent incident where the media portrayed her as someone begging for work, Nia requested the media, especially Hindi publications, to mind their choice of words. “Media post videos stating I am begging for work and then there are many who comment ‘Nangi ghumti hai issliye kaam nahi milta’. Just for the record, I am very well to do. It is just that, even if you still have money, you would want to work.”

Although she has had a great career, Nia says her life has not been a bed of roses. “I guess nobody has that privilege of a stress-free life. Looking back at my life, I feel like it was yesterday when that car wasn’t there, and money wasn’t there. So, I take it in my stride to grow nicely. I want to grow into a nice and sane human being.”

Sharing her dream, Nia revealed, “I want to be super rich, work very hard and be known for my work. Work is my dream.” She jokingly added, “The title of my song is also paisa paisa, so, sometimes you manifest things.”

Although she is the flagbearer of the OTT platform as she started in 2017, Nia says she would want to work on OTT again. “OTT is more laid back and the artist is given a lot more time. So, I want to work in that kind of environment where there is no pressure of telecasting.”

She signed off by adding, “I would like to do a fiery, feisty, women-centric project.”
