‘Daadhi Mooch’ lands Bharti Singh in legal trouble

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Bharti Singh is an excellent comedian and that can be seen through the way she makes others roll on the floor with laughter. But this comedy is what landed her in trouble this time. An old video of the comedian joking about men’s beards and moustaches has gone viral. As a result, she has received a lot of backlashes from the Sikh community with the criticism also landing her in legal trouble.

A video showcased Bharti Singh in a show with Jasmin Bhasin. She is seen joking about men with beards and moustaches. She jokes about beards tasting like ‘sewaiya’ with milk and about beard lice.

Jassi Tallan, the chief of Ravidas Tiger Force has officially lodged a complaint at the Adampur police station in Jalandhar. She has been accused of making fun of the Sikh community who are known for their long beards and moustaches. Bharti is charged under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings).

Correspondingly, Bharti posted a video on her feed apologizing for unintentionally hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community. She talked in Punjabi while addressing the issue and stated that she is a Punjabi as well and is proud of her heritage. She added that she would never do something deliberately to hurt someone.

Comedians have been constantly landing in legal trouble for the past few years for their statements during their comedy sketches. The question remains on whether comedians are being too insensitive with their jokes or are people becoming too sensitive while receiving them?
