Rajasthan HC orders status quo on Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday ordered status quo on the Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam-2021 after the government said the exam cannot be cancelled in haste.

A bench of Justice Sameer Jain listed the matter for hearing on February 10.

Before this, Additional Advocate General (AAG) Vigyan Shah submitted the state government's its view on the exam.

"Whether it is the opinion of the advocate general or the committee formed by the state, the government said it has not yet reached a decision on whether to cancel the exam or not. The government said the decision is under process and it cannot cancel the exam in haste," Vedant Sharma, counsel of accused candidates and recruited sub-inspectors, told reporters.

He said as far as the November 19, 2024 order of the high court to maintain status quo on the exam is concerned, the court has further clarified that status quo has to be maintained on the entire recruitment and training-posting process.

He said the court has also appointed senior advocate RD Rastogi as the amicus curiae in the case to help the court in resolving the difficulties.

Harendra Neel, counsel of petitioners who want the exam to be cancelled, said, "The government in its reply has cleared that recruitment is not going to be cancelled as of now as investigation is underway. When the investigation is completely over then the government will be able to make a decision."

He said the court has stalled the field training and posting for the selected candidates in the exam.

Vacancies were announced to fill 859 candidates. Fifty trainee sub-inspectors and two RPSC members are among the total 150 people arrested by the police.

Police headquarters and the advocate general had recommended cancelling the examination.

A cabinet committee of six ministers was formed on October 1, 2024 to decide whether to cancel the exam.

The case is being investigated by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan police.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel has been made the convener of the six-member cabinet committee constituted to review the SI Recruitment Examination-2021.
