Sportsman rapes minor girl under training in Gandhinagar, arrested
Gandhinagar: In a startling incident, a 20-year-old sportsman allegedly raped a minor girl when they were under training in Gandhinagar.
He was arrested Saturday night when he went to the Sports Authority of India’s Gandhinagar complex for some work.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (SC/ST cell) B J Chaudhary told mediapersons Ravi Ghanghus had returned to the city for some official work. As soon as the police came to know this, a team was dispatched to the SAI to arrest him.
He will be produced before the court, his medical test will be conducted and will be taken to the Capital Guest house for identification parade, where the offence took place.
Eleven days ago, the victim had filed a complaint of rape with Amravati police station with zero number, which was transferred to Sector 21 police station since the offence had occured in Sector 16, Gandhinagar.
The 16-year-old girl was playing handball and was under training at the Sports Authority of India’s Netaji Subhaschandra Western Center situated in Sector 15 in Gandhinagar from 2019 until January 2021.
During the same period, Haryana’s Ravi, 20, too was under training. They came in contact during the training and used to meet and have long conversations.
After the training, both left the sports complex but the victim could not get a confirmed ticket for Amravati and she was stuck in Gandhinagar.
Taking advantage of the situation, Ravi promised to marry her and took her to the capital guest house. Without checking the identity proof, the Guest House manager allotted them a room where Ravi allegedly raped her thrice.
However, she remained in touch with Ravi even after returning to her native Amravati and used to talk for long hours. This aroused her mother’s suspicion and she inquired about the relationship.
The girl narrated her plight and after this her mother lodged the police complaint.
