Surjewala confuses goddess Sita with Draupadi, irks BJP

Udaipur: Congress National Spokesperson & RS candidate Randeep Surjewala on Thursday invited ire of Opposition leaders due to his slip of tongue. He mistakenly referred to ‘Draupadi chirharan’ as ‘Sita chirharan’ while addressing the media outside Hotel Taj Aravali Hotel in Udaipur before leaving for Jaipur. “...aur jhooth ka avaran pehne jo log, jaise ek samay mein Sita Maiya ka chirharan huya tha, wo ab prajatantra ka chirharan karna chahte hain,” said Surjewala.

BJPs’ national and state leaders took to social media cornering Surjewala for his comment.

Regarding RS polls, Surjewala said, “Democratic majority will win. Those who have come here on power of money, ED, & CBI, will bite the dust.”

Dy LoP Rajendra Rathore reacted to Surjewala’s remarks saying, “Congress, which has debunked Lord Ram & denied the existence of Ram Setu, has once again displayed a bad mentality by making indecent remarks like ‘Sitamata’s Chirharan.’ It should stop playing with countrymen’s faith by doing ‘chirharan’ of democracy. BJP State President Dr Satish Poonia said that Sita Maiya wasn’t ripped off, democracy was ripped by imposing emergency, hundreds of times the Congress has misused Article 356 like Kauravas.

Referring to the report of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices released on Wednesday night, Surjewala said that the income of farmers has not doubled under the Modi government, but the pain has been doubled a hundred times.

“At present the income of the farmer is only Rs 27 per day,” said Surjewala.
