RANSOM CALL TO MINISTER IN BADABANDI, 24 DETAINED

Bikaner: The police detained 24 people from Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar in connection with call demanding Rs 70 lakh from Disaster Relief Minister Govindram Meghwal, who is in Udaipur ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls. He was threatened by a man who demanded Rs 70 lakh from him on Tuesday. The police also increased security at the minister’s residence.

The caller was identified as Sunil Vishnoi alias Sethi, a resident of Das Bidi Chak, Khajuwala, Bikaner. He is currently working in Malaysia. Those detained here were in contact with Sunil, IG Omprakash told the media on Wednesday.

11 men and a girl were taken into custody in Bikaner while 12 men were taken into custody in Sri Ganganagar, said IG Omprakash. The FIR was filed at 1 pm on Wednesday and within 4 hours, the police disclosed the whole matter. Investigation revealed that Sunil is running a Facebook page in the name of SK Meena. He introduced himself as a member of the Student Organization of Panjab University (SOPU), an organization associated with Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This call came from Malaysia’s ISD code.
