3 women killed, several injured

Sikar: Three women were killed in a stampede outside the Khatu Shyamji when people in queues tried to rush in as its doors opened in early hours on Monday. Four others were hurt when thousands from across nation were headed to the temple to mark Ekadashi.

CM announced an exgratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those who died and Rs 20,000 for the injured. “The accident in Khatu Shyamji Temple will be investigated by the DC,” Gehlot said in a tweet. Sikar Collector Avichal Chaturvedi said close to 1 lakh people were outside main gate, queuing up as the doors were closed. The in-charge of temple police station Riya Choudhary was suspended as she did not handle situation well” when there was a “heavy rush” outside temple, Sikar SP Kunwar Rashtradeep said. Victims were identified as Shanti Devi (Hisar), Maya Devi (UP), and Kripa Devi (Jaipur).
