The most popular Hindu tradition is burning diyas, which are little earthenware lamps filled with oil, on the night of the new moon to call the goddess of riches Lakshmi to one’s side. Diwali’s essence lies in the sloka, ‘Tamaso ma jyotirgamaya’ which means ‘Lead me from darkness to light’, As per the Vedanta, every pious individual has to fill his heart with the oil of love, light the wick with the knowledge of Truth and ward off incognizance. It further states that we can ignite a light in many hearts just like a Diya which can light many Diyas. This is also the festival when sweets entice us all day long. The pious festival depicts the important message of life which says the divine light burns within us and all around us by eradicating the darkness of ignorance and other ills wreaking havoc on humankind, may this Diwali offer pleasure and happiness to everybody.
