Pune: Engineering student booked for clicking photos of roommates, sending them to her male friend

Pune: Pune City police have registered a case against a female engineering student for clicking photos of her roommates in the hostel and allegedly sending them to her male friend outside the campus.
A senior police official said that Police have registered a case under IPC section 354(c) and IT act for clicking photos and sending them through a messaging app to her male friend, police are investigating the photos that were sent however as of now no obscenity was found and further probe is on.
A case has been registered against the female student and her male friend at Shivaji Nagar police of Pune City police, added the police official.
Meanwhile, the College in which this incident occurred has issued a media statement that reads, "COEP Tech University has initiated an inquiry by forming an internal inquiry committee and has also lodged a Police Complaint following a complaint received from some girl students residing at University's hostel Campus. The girls made an official complaint against one of their roommates who was allegedly clicking the photos of the girls without their knowledge and was sharing the same with someone else outside the University premises."
"COEP Tech University is committed to fostering an environment of safety, respect, and integrity for all the members of its community. In line with this approach, COEP has taken strong action and has lodged a Police Complaint. Considering the gravity of the complaint made by the girl students staying at the hostel, a high-level internal inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate this incident," read the media statement from the university.
Registrar, COEP Tech University said, "COEP Tech University has debarred the girl student who is facing the allegation from the hostel campus. She has also been temporarily suspended from the University against the pending inquiry. COEP reaffirms its unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment, where all individuals can pursue their academic and personal goals without fear of harassment or exploitation."
