A GATEWAY TO HEAVEN!

Travelling brings an innate sense of calm. There is joy wrapped in wisdom as you traverse unchartered territories and explore unique places. For many, it is the best time of their lives when they feel connected with mother nature and they are the happiest in their element with their loved ones.

Travel is a luxury that allows us a much-needed break from constantly clicking away on our keyboards or bleeding our eyes out on our screens. And when we think of a peaceful vacation away from all the noise and nuisance we think of Landour. There is Landour and then there is a must-visit place Cafe De Landour. Alpine passes, scenic drives through narrow winding lanes, cheese fondue, chocolate desserts, and afternoons spent lazing around in cosy cottages and villas. What is not to love? A trip to Landour sounds like a one-way ticket straight to paradise, right?

Landour, a Cantonment town in British India was named after a village called Llanddowror in south-west Wales. Lost in the mists of the Himalayas, draped in the scarlet red colour of rhododendrons & thick deodars, Landour reminds you of the British Raj. A 5-kilometre steep drive or walk from the crowded bazaars of Mussoorie, it’s a different world of peace and lush views.

If Mussorie is fondly known as the ‘Queen of Hills’, then Landour can be termed as the tiara resting on top of the Queen’s head. Home of one of India’s favourite authors —Ruskin Bond, this pretty town is close to the city of Dehradun. Landour is a tiny cantonment town, and since the British rule, it has been a popular hill station. Located in the Mussorie range of the Western Himalayas, Landour experiences a good deal of rainfall during the monsoon, giving it a beautiful view.

Winter is a harsh cold, and summer has its strong warmth to offer, so the best time to visit would be towards the end of summer and the beginning of monsoon since it gets quite pleasant on this hill station. With a variety of trees like Oak, Pine, Deodar, Cedar, Ash etc present in this town, they provide a serene atmosphere. The Himalayan mountain ranges such as the Garwhal Mountains, Swargarohini, Gangotri, Yamunotri and the likes, surround the region rendering an astounding view.
