‘Nathula Tiger’ Colonel Bishan Singh dies, cremation today

Jaipur: Colonel Bishan Singh Rathore, popularly known as Nathula Tiger in the Indian Army, died here on Sunday morning. He was 84 years old. His last rites will be performed with full military honors at Mokshadham on Sikar Road at 11 am on Monday. Col Rathore was ill for some days and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Bishan Singh was born on 10 November 1938 in Bhagwanpura village of Nawan tehsil of Nagaur district. He joined the army in 1961. He commanded an army unit in Nathula during the IndoChina war of 1967. He was injured by a bullet in his hand during the war, but due to the indomitable courage of his unit, the Chinese army had to return. That is why Bishan Singh is known as ‘Nathula Tiger’. He was awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry in the war.
