Mini forest to replace trees axed at airport

Jaipur: Jaipur International Airport Limited will develop a mini forest by planting 4,400 trees in exchange of felling 700 trees for aircraft parking in Bichun village in Dudu Tehsil of Jaipur District. The entire exercise is being undertaken under the directions of district administration and the department concerned. The main objective behind the initiative is to develop new apron area for the aircraft at Terminal 1 and ensure its operational readiness in phased manner. The first phase involves development of apron area which will come in 9 acres of land, which was earlier the residential colony for the employees of airport authority. As per concession agreement the colony was vacated, and land was handed over to Jaipur Airport a few months back.

The detailed survey was than conducted by Civic authorities that identified 594 trees inside the colony which are to be displaced. Of these trees, 50 trees will be relocated to Goner forest area near Jaipur with help of local authorities. Against the rest, Jaipur international Airport will plant seven times more trees (4400) in Bichun Village. To entire exercise has been taken under the directions of district administration, concerned government department and after getting all NOCs as per law. The operational readiness and expansion of T1 will be strictly undertaken in accordance with environment sustainability and laws. JIAL has already deposited the money with the concerned government department for the entire exercise.. It includes all the cost of plantation, maintenance, fencing, watering, and security. The work related to installation of seats in sitting area, installation of security hold area, baggage belts, immigration counters has also started inside the terminal building.
