KATARIA SLAMS GEHLOT GOVT OVER RISING CASES OF RAPES IN STATE

Jaipur: The Opposition on Tuesday slammed the government in the Assembly on the issue of increasing cases of rapes in Rajasthan.

Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria questioned the conviction rate is low. In response to Kataria’s question, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal said that in threeyear period from January 2019 to January 2022, about 5,793 cases of rape on minor girls have been registered. In such a situation, 5 girls are raped every day.

Total 6,628 accused were arrested for raping minor girls. In 129 cases, 398 accused convicted. Kataria questioned the minister’s reply and said that despite having more than 50 courts of POCSO Act in the state, only 129 accused convicted so far.

“The main reason for this is the pornographic content present on social media, which is served unabated,” he said. He also admits that the number of POCSO courts is needed to be increased to up the conviction rate in such crimes.

Dhariwal said Public Safety Bill has been prepared and if this bill is passed, then it will be mandatory to install CCTV cameras in the notified areas.
