Govt puts price cap on affordable housing

Jaipur: Builders will no longer be able to sell houses at high prices under the Chief Minister’s Jan Awas Yojana for which the Ashok Gehlot Government has fixed the maximum rate. The scheme was implemented with the aim to provide cheap houses to the poor but there was no maximum rate fixed for the sale of houses due to which builders used to sell houses at higher prices. To curb this, the Government has abolished old provisions of 3B and 3C and inserted a new provision in order to fix the maximum rate. Under the new provisions, builders will be able to sell houses at a maximum rate of Rs 1,850 per sq. ft. Earlier there was no such ceiling and due to this, builders made luxurious houses and sold them at high prices.
