Around 1 lakh cow dung made diyas to be given to city people

Around one lakh Diyas are being made from cow dung in Jaipur on the occasion of the Ram Temple Pran Pratishtha ceremony on January 22. These Diyas will be distributed to the public of Jaipur.

Hingonia Goshala of Jaipur has taken up this unique initiative in collaboration with Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Greater).
These Diyas are a call back to the age-old Indian tradition of using Cow dung cakes in religious ceremonies like Hawans and Yagyas. Made 100% from cow dung, using a special machine, these Diyas are being sent with a special message in every box that reads, “In order to save cows, we need to get plastic out of food”.

The Deepaks are supposed to be immersed in water for 5-10 seconds before use and are supposed to be placed on firm surfaces away from flammable substances as the Diya itself will burn completely. The idea here is that the unique scent of “hawana” should spread with the burning of each Diya. Burning cow dung has a special spiritual place in Hinduism and is also said to have a plethora of health benefits.

“This is a completely organic and natural product. In ancient times, only earth and cow dung were used for making Diyas, we want to bring back the age-old tradition on the holy occasion of Ram Temple consecration. This day holds special value in the hearts of millions of Indians and we being from ‘Choti Kashi’ want to add to the positivity and the wholesomeness of the day,” said Shiv, from Hingonia Goshala.

Cow dung is one of the 'Panchgavya' mentioned in Ayurveda. It is known to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Ayurveda recommends Panchagavya to treat diseases of multiple systems, including severe conditions, with almost no side-effects. Cow dung can help build a healthy population, alternative sources of energy, complete nutritional requirements, eradicate poverty, pollution-free environment, organic farming.
