EMERGENCY IN SRI LANKA

Colombo: PM and now acting president Ranil Wickremesinghe in a special video statement on on Wednesday said that a committee comprising chiefs of the armed forces has been appointed to restore law and order, and that it will be empowered to declare Emergency and curfews if needed. Wickremesinghe claimed that “fascist” elements were taking over the country.
Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country on Wednesday, hours before he was due to officially resign. Rajapaksa called speaker of parl to say he would resign later in day, that Ranil should be interim prez.
