Justice Mithal to take oath as CJ of Raj HC on Oct 14

Jaipur: Justice Pankaj Mithal will be the new Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court. He is currently the CJ of J&K & Ladakh HCs. According to sources, Justice Mithal will take oath as CJ of Rajasthan HC on October 14 at Raj Bhavan. Recently, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the transfer of Justice Pankaj Mithal as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan HC. On Monday, the Central Government approved this recommendation then after discussion with the President, the Law Ministry issued the order. It is noteworthy that MM Srivastava has been working as an acting judge in Rajasthan High Court since the retirement of Chief Justice SS Shinde. Justice Pankaj Mithal is originally a judge of the Allahabad High Court. He was appointed as Additional Judge in Allahabad High Court on July 7, 2006 from advocate quota which was made permanent after two years on July 2, 2008. His name was recommended by the collegium in December 2020 as the CJ of the J &K and Ladakh High Courts. He took oath as Jammu and Kashmir High Court CJ on January 4, 2021. Justice Pankaj Mithal was born on June 17, 1961. After graduating in Commerce from Allahabad University in 1982, he completed his LLB from Charan Singh University’s Meerut College in 1985. Subsequently, he got himself registered as an advocate in the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council. Before being appointed as a judge in the Allahabad High Court, Justice Mithal was the Permanent Government Council of several institutions including the UP Awas Vikas Parishad and Ambedkar University
