Inappropriate remarks against Chair uncalled for: Om Birla

New Delhi : Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday expressed anguish over inappropriate remarks at the Chair and said that casting aspersions on the chair amounted to disrespect of the House.

He said that such comments against the Chair should not be made, neither inside nor outside the House.

Birla also said it was inappropriate for a member to make comments against the Chair on social media.

A day after TMC member Mahua Moitra raised questions on the presiding officer for not granting enough time to speak, the Speaker said it was always his endeavour to ensure every member received adequate time to speak in the House.

Birla said the member sitting on the Chair has all the constitutional rights of the Speaker and there should be no comments on the Chair because this hurts parliamentary democracy.
