CM inaugurates Amagarh Leopard Reserve in Jaipur, stresses on biodiversity conservation

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated and dedicated Amagarh Leopard Reserve from Chief Minister’s residence on International Biodiversity Day on Sunday. Gehlot said that Amagarh Leopard Reserve would prove to be a milestone in the direction of forest and wildlife conservation. Greeting all the people of the state on International Biodiversity Day, he dedicated the gift of Amagarh Leopard Reserve tourist place to the people of the state and said that wildlife has an important role in human life.

The Chief Minister said, “Conservation of biodiversity is the important responsibility of all of us. Many historic decisions have been taken by the state government in line with its commitment to forest and environment conservation. Rajasthan has been successful in conserving the forest despite its geographical disparities. Rajasthan with its historical heritage has maintained a big place in the form of wildlife tourism. It is a good sign for the state that the number of tigers, leopards and other wildlife is also increasing continuously.”

CM Ashok Gehlot said that the State Govt was committed to the protection of forests and wildlife. “To maintain biodiversity, in the year 2010 itself, notification of Rajasthan Biological Diversity Rules was issued. There are 3 national parks, 27 wildlife sanctuaries, 16 conservation reserves and 4 tiger projects in the state. Work is being done for their protection. He also said that in 1972, former PM Indira Gandhi started ‘Project Tiger’ taking initiative in forest and wildlife conservation. Forestry gardens are being developed in Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, Udaipur, Bharatpur and Ajmer on lines of World Forestry Park at Jhalana Dungri in Jaipur, he said. “Raj sets an example in tiger conservation Jhalana in Jaipur has become a centre of attraction among tourists from all over the world due to Panthers. Artificial breeding of Godavan was started in Jaisalmer with an agreement between the Centre, WII and the State Government.
