Anti Narcotics’ Cell seizes MD haul worth Rs 1,400 cr
Mumbai: The Anti Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Police on Wednesday seized about 701 kg of MD drug from Nalasopara area. Datta Nalawade, DCP Anti-Narcotics Cell said, “The seized drug consignment is worth around Rs 1,400 crore. 5 drug peddlers have been (4 male and 1 female) arrested.” It is one of the biggest drug busts in recent times, where the Anti Narcotics’ Cell, Worli unit seized a total 704 kgs 840 grams of Mephedrone valued over Rs 1,408 crore. Deputy Commissioner of police Datta Nalawade, who heads the ANC, said that an entire drug ring—manufacturer, supplier and dealer—was busted during carefully planned operation.
According to the ANC, its Worli unit initially arrested a peddler from Govandi in north eastern Mumbai. The interrogation led to the supplier from Govandi and then the investigations led to two more persons who were apprehended on the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road in relation to the case that the ANC Worli section filed in March. The police were looking for a lady after learning she was engaged in supplying the mephedrone. Finally, the manufacturer was arrested from Nalasopara. According to initial investigations, the manufacturer was qualified in organic chemistry and he was allegedly supplying these drugs through various fake identities created on social media platforms. The police are currently looking for the location where the accused made the drug.
Mephedrone, also known as MD or meowmeow, is a stimulant drug, which means it accelerates the speed of the messages travelling between the mind and the body. Whether this manufacturer-supplier-dealer chain leads to any big names or celebrities in the city remains to be seen.
