Mokariya supports Agarwal corruption claims

Rajkot police commissioner has been accused of pocketing compensation amount meant for fraud victims.

Rajkot: In another jolt to Rajkot Police Commissioner Manoj Agarwal, allegations of corruption on his part were granted authenticity by Rajya Sabha MP Rambhai Mokariya on Saturday after he came out in support of claims made by Rajkot MLA Govind Patel.

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA, Patel had submitted written allegations against the commissioner for accepting ‘commissions’ from victims of financial fraud.

Supporting his allegations, Mokariya on Saturday revealed that the commissioner was a corrupt officer. He also informed that Agarwal had paid a BJP leader to receive posting in Rajkot city.

Speaking to First India, MP Mokariya elaborated, “Corruption happens when the Rajkot police commissioner issues licenses for weapons, or in case of land issues.

He (police commissioner) takes money by getting work done through a selected team. He has side-tracked many good officers who do not answer to the public, neglect to file complaints and/or FIRs.”

Condemning Agarwal’s actions, he further stated, “He should not be granted a good posting. It is because a political leader that he landed in the Rajkot posting.

It is said that the commissioner paid Rs1.65 crore to the party leader every month. But he must be sidelined now so that injustice is not meted out the public.”

Without naming the party leader who granted Rajkot posting to Agarwal, Mokariya asserted, “The one who has brought him to Rajkot has done damage to the city.

There are good officers in the police department, but because of one or two people like this, the police department is infamous.”
