Sukhee: Shilpa Shetty aims to be "very scared" to play the lead in films
In Bollywood, Shilpa Shetty has had a fascinating career. She made her acting debut in the Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol-starrer Baazigar, after which she acted in a number of popular films. The actress is currently preparing for the premiere of Sukhee, a slice-of-life comedy in which she plays the major role.
In an interview with India Today, Shetty opened up about doing films where she is the main protagonist. She said, “I am very scared of taking up projects where I am the main protagonist because the onus then lies on your shoulders and it is too much pressure." She further added, “Your worth is decided basis your box office numbers. An actor's job is to do their job. Box office cannot be the deciding factor on how much we should be commanding."
Regarding the pay gaps in Bollywood, the actress was also questioned. In response, she stated that the absence of pay parity and the pressure from the box office made it challenging for artists to do their duties. "Hence, I want more and more people to support our films so that we can also demand more pay", she added.
Shetty will appear in the September 22nd theatrical release of Sukhee. The movie is written by Sonal Joshi, Radhika Anand, Paulomi Dutta, and Rupinder Inderjit and is directed by Joshi. Shilpa Shetty, Kusha Kapila, Amit Sadh, Chaitannya Choudhury, Dilnaz Irani, Pavleen Gujral, Kiran Kumar, and Vinod Nagpal are among the actors who appear in it. The last time we saw Shetty was in the action comedy movie Nikamma from 2022, which also starred Shirley Setia and Abhimanyu Dassani. The movie received poor reviews from critics and performed horribly at the box office.
She will also appear in Prem's action movie KD - The Devil in Kannada. Sanjay Dutt, Reeshma Nanaiah, Dhruva Sarja, and V. Ravichandran are among its cast members. This year, the pan-Indian, multilingual film is anticipated to be released. She also stars alongside Sidharth Malhotra in Rohit Shetty's action police web series Indian Police Force.
