Critically Acclaimed Film ‘Dhai Aakhar’ Set to Release in Theaters on November 22

The highly anticipated film Dhai Aakhar, directed by Praveen Arora, is all set for its nationwide theatrical release on November 22, 2024. Known for addressing sensitive social themes, this film explores the harrowing reality of domestic violence while following the journey of a woman rediscovering her identity amidst adversity.

Dhai Aakhar was selected for the prestigious Panorama Section and nominated under ‘Best Debut Feature Film of a Director’ category at last year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where it received widespread appreciation from both national and international audiences. Recently, the official release date was announced with the unveiling of a new poster on social media.

Based on the acclaimed Hindi novel Teerthatan Ke Baad by Amrik Singh Deep, Dhai Aakhar tells the story of Harshita, a woman trapped in an abusive and degrading marriage for years. Her correspondence with the renowned author Sridhar brings her solace, but their relationship, deemed inappropriate by a conservative, patriarchal society, faces severe opposition. The film poignantly portrays Harshita's struggle to reclaim her identity and dignity.

Will Harshita overcome the societal and familial obstacles in her path? Can her bond with Sridhar survive the backlash? Dhai Aakhar presents an emotional exploration of these questions, offering a deeply moving narrative about love, identity, and resilience.

Veteran actress Mrinal Kulkarni takes on the lead role of Harshita, bringing her acclaimed acting prowess from both Hindi and Marathi cinema. The film also features seasoned theatre and film actor Harish Khanna and popular Marathi actor Rohit Kokate in pivotal roles. Renowned writer Asghar Wajahat has penned the screenplay and dialogues, while the film’s creative team includes lyricist Irshad Kamil, music directors Anupam Roy (for both Hindi and Bengali compositions), and singer Kavita Seth.

Director Praveen Arora describes Dhai Aakhar as an ode to love, a force with the power to transform lives. He emphasizes the need to address how domestic violence is normalized within families and how it profoundly impacts a woman’s self-worth. Set in the 1980s, the film delivers an emotional narrative that aims to resonate deeply with the audience.

Mrinal Kulkarni added that the double standards our society holds towards women are a harsh reality, and Dhai Aakhar shines a light on this truth. The central character Harshita faces immense challenges, and audiences will witness an emotional love story on the big screen after a long time.

Produced under the banners of Kabir Communications, Aakriti Productions, and SK Jain Jamai, Dhai Aakhar had its world premiere at IFFI 2023, where it garnered positive reactions from critics, audiences, and industry professionals alike. The film has been selected and nominated in various film festivals across the globe. It was official selected at film festivals such as the Chennai International Film Festival 2023 and received a Special Jury Award at the Cambodia International Film Festival 2024.

Shot across the scenic landscapes of Uttarakhand, Dhai Aakhar promises to captivate viewers with its heartfelt narrative and stunning visuals when it hits theaters on November 22, 2024.
