Author on ventilator after stabbing, attacker identified

New York: Author Salman Rushdie who was stabbed at a literary event in NY was on a ventilator and could lose an eye, his agent said on Saturday. He was stabbed on Friday following the attack 33 years after an Iranian fatwa ordered his killing for “The Satanic Verses”. Weeks before, Rushdie told a German magazine that his life was now “relatively normal”, after having lived in hiding for years because of death threats.
