Stone pelted on cops in Nadbai over Ambedkar’s statue

Bharatpur: Tension erupted in Nadbai area of Bharatpur following a dispute regarding installation of a statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar. Stone pelting was done on policemen from Belara village. The police lobbed tear gas shells to control the situation.

The police pushed the agitators using mild force. Collector Alok ranjan and SP Shyam Singh along with the police force are present at the spot to maintain law and order. A dispute regarding installation of the statue at Belara chauraha has been going on in Nadbai for the last several days. Some people want a statue of Maharaja Surajmal to be installed there while other people want the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar at the same place. Those demanding the statue of Maharaja Surajmal had been sitting on a dharna which was called off after intervention of Vishvendra Singh on Tuesday. He asked them to form a 11 member team to resolve matter.In the meantime, Nadbai MLA Joginder Singh Awana announced the installation of the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar on April 14.
