State High Court faces judge crunch

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court is currently facing shortage of judges and two more judges will be retiring in the next three months. There are a total 50 posts of judges in the State High Court but at present, only 27 judges are working. Chief Justice SS Shinde retired on August 1 and now there is uncertainty as to when the new judges will be appointed.

Justice Rameshwar Vyas will retire on 10 September and Justice Prakash Gupta will retire on 10 November. With this the number of judges will be reduced to 50 per cent and it is likely to affect the pendency of the cases. The names for new judges were sent under the chairmanship of the then Chief Justice Akil Kureshi.
