Spirited fight between a Monk seeking a hat-trick & a Comrade eyeing maiden win
Sikar: Both the major parties - BJP and Congress - have now put their full strength into the election campaign in the Sikar Lok Sabha seat. Here, BJP has played a bet for the third time on two-time MP Swami Sumedhanand Saraswati, while Congress has left this seat for I.N.D.I. Alliance. Fourtime former MLA Comrade Amra Ram of CPI(M) has been fielded as the joint candidate of the alliance.
BJP candidate Swami Sumedhanand is among the public for the development work done in the area during his two tenures as MP. The other 12 candidates are contesting in this election as different parties and candidates. BJP has gambled on Sumedhanand Saraswati’s image of staying away from factionalism.
PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasra has played an important role in Congress’ approval on the face of Comrade Amra Ram who believed that the comrade would make the election battle tough for BJP as he would get Congress votes along with Left votes. Now it has to be seen whether Congress and CPI(M), who were once face to face in many assemblies of Sikar, will be able to get the voters to vote or not. BJP candidate Swami Sumedhanand and I.N.D.I. Alliance candidate Comrade Amra Ram, both come from Jat families. Swami Sumedhanand is a voter of Piprali and Comrade Amra Ram is a voter of Mundwara. Amra Ram has a distinct reputation among the farmers due to his active involvement in the farmers’ movement. Whereas Swami Sumedhanand Saraswati is among the public with the major achievements of railway transport and better connectivity, medical college, and military academy in the last two terms. In support of Swami Sumedhanand Saraswati, Home Minister Amit Shah has given momentum to the campaign by holding a road show in Sikar city. Apart from the nomination, CM Bhajan Lal Sharma was also present in the roadshow and has put in all his strength to maintain the BJP’s streak of winning twentyfive seats in the state.
The entire Congress of Sikar including former CM Ashok Gehlot, PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasra, and CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat were present in the nomination meeting in support of Comrade Amra Ram in the alliance.
