Jaisalmer: Rajasthan will host the 55th GST Council meeting on December 21 in Jaisalmer. The meeting will be attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with finance ministers from various states.

The council is expected to deliberate on reducing GST rates across multiple categories. Several states have already recommended rate reductions. A major decision regarding GST on insurance sector may also be taken. Additionally, council may address reducing GST rates on packaged drinking water, bicycles, notebooks, watches, and footwear.

Preparations for the GST Council meeting have commenced in the state, with officers from the Commercial Tax Department (SGST) taking charge. A few officials from Jaipur have already reached Jaisalmer.
