Parole denial: HC orders action against Bkn DM, Jail Chief

Jodhpur: The HC on Tuesday, directed CS to take action against Bikaner Collector & Jail Superintendent for not taking a decision on parole application of a prisoner lodged in Bikaner jail despite the death of his mother.

The Bench also instructed all officials concerned to dispose of parole applications of jail inmates to be given in emergency situations within a stipulated time frame.

The Division Bench of Justices Sandeep Mehta and Vinod Kumar Bharwani asked the Home Secretary to ensure that District Collectors & Jail Superintendents do not keep such applications pending. The mother of Girdhari Singh, a prisoner in Bikaner jail, died on March 9.

Next day, Singh sent an application for parole to Jail Superintendent. However, the latter didn’t take any decision for almost a month forcing Singh to approach the High Court on 8 April.

Officials were summoned by court for not following oral order & their reply was found to be dissatisfactory, so case was referred to CS.
