MLA Poonia booked for controversial remark
Jodhpur/Barmer: Sangaria MLA Abhimanyu Poonia told his supporters to “thrash officials if they don’t listen” and assured, “MP Umedaram and I will handle it afterward.” He was speaking in an event “Naukri Do, Nasha Nahin” at Sedwa in Barmer.
The statement, captured in a viral video, led to the Barmer police filing a case against him. IG Vikas Kumar instructed the Barmer SP to investigate the matter, stressing that such incitement undermines democratic norms.
Range IG Vikas Kumar, in an exclusive conversation with First India News, gave a clear message: “If an individual has any complaint with any official, they can express it at every level in a democracy. However, no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.” Poonia’s comments are viewed as potentially criminal under various Sections of 153, 504, and 505(1)(B) Indian Penal Code.
