MAN AWARDED DEATH SENTENCE FOR RAPING, MURDERING MINOR

Dungarpur: A POCSO court in Dungarpur on Saturday awarded a death sentence to a 30-year-old man for abducting, raping and murdering a ten-yearold minor girl nearly two months ago. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 5 lakh on the convict.

Special Public Prosecutor Yogesh Kumar Joshi informed the incident took place on the night of June 29, 2022, when the victim was fast asleep at her home. “The accused, Jitendra, grandson of a former village Sarpanch, abducted her and took her to a secluded place. The victim was then raped and strangulated to death. Her body was later dumped under a bridge in a naked condition,” said Yogesh Kumar Joshi.

“Following an FIR was filed in Sadar Police Station, the FSL team collected samples from the spot. CCTV footage was also gathered during the investigation. A DNA test of the accused was also conducted to confirm rape and murder of the victim,” added Special Public Prosecutor Yogesh Joshi.

The Sadar Thana Police had submitted the chargesheet within twenty days of the arrest of the accused, while the trial was completed within 70 days.
