Major Bhupendra’s statue unveiled
Sri Ganganagar: An unveiling ceremony of the statue of Shaurya Chakra winner, martyr Major Bhupendra Singh was held in the nearby village of Mohanpura in Sriganganagar district. On this occasion, Major Bhupendra Singh’s wife, Avinash Kaur, and daughter, Nimrat Kaur, unveiled the statue. During the event, the families of 12 other martyr soldiers were also honoured.
The programme highlighted the bravery of martyr Major Bhupendra Singh, who demonstrated exceptional courage during a confrontation with terrorists in Terana, Jammu and Kashmir, in 1994. On January 17, 1994, Major Bhupendra Singh led the charge against terrorists in the Khazwal Pahalgam area and he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for this act of valour. He was martyred after being abducted.
During the statue unveiling, martyr’s daughter Nimrat Kaur, who is a Bollywood actress, stated that after her father’s martyrdom, family received immense support from the Army. She said, “This place holds a special significance for keeping my father’s memory alive & honoring the martyrs.”
