KOTA & BARAN FACE FLOOD SITUATION

Kota: Extremely heavy rainfall and subsequent release of excessive water from dams have created a flood-like situation in parts of Kota, Jhalawar & surrounding areas, officials said on Monday. Dist administration in Kota, Jhalawar and Bundi declared holiday in govt and pvt schools on Monday & Tuesday. Approximately 3,500 people were shifted from low-lying areas to safer places and temporary shelter houses here. “1500 were shifted from colonies in Kota city,” Kota Dist Collector OP Bunkar. Teams of SDRF have also been pressed into work. About 3.83 lakh cusec water has been released by opening 14 out of 19 gates of Kota barrage so far. The authorities plan to release 5.75 lakh cusec water from Kota barrage. Also 2.8 L cusec water was released from Kalisindh dam in Jhalawar & 25200 cusec water from Bhim Sagar dam in Jhalawar, officials said Inflow of water increased in Kota barrage on Chambal river due to rainfall in catchment area of Rana Pratap Sagar dam (Chittorgarh) & Jawahar Sagar dam (Kota), official said.
