Jagdeesh Chandra conferred with honorary degree of D.Litt!

Udaipur: Editor-inChief of First India and an eminent media personality Jagdeesh Chandra received yet another great honour on Saturday when Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth of Udaipur conferred upon him the honorary degree of D.Litt. On this occasion, Dr. Jagdeesh Chandra also shared his experiences expressing gratitude in a function attended by luminaries of various fields.

On Saturday, the 14th convocation ceremony was organized at Vidhyapeeth wherein Dr. Chandra was awarded the degree for outstanding contribution in the field of journalism. In fact, the honour has been conferred on a media personality after a gap of four years as previously this honour was conferred on stalwart media personality Dr. Gulab Kothari of Patrika group.

Meanwhile, on the occasion, Dr. Chandra addressed the student and motivating them, said, “The dream of getting being addressed as ‘Doctor’ has come true. No goal is achieved without hard work. Dr. Gulab Kothari was also conferred with the same honour and I am happy that I have been conferred with the same honour.”

Dr. Chandra further said, “Very early in my life I realised the value of education and learnt that if you are not born a genius, then you have to acquire the knowledge, brilliance and positions. And with the blessings of my parents, I acquired those positions.

I had a gold medal in M.Com and topped the RAS. Then I got promoted into IAS and got several chances to work while also receiving honours from the people. I am a proud 72 year old man, still young and energetic.”

Remembering his days as IAS, Dr. Chandra said, “In 2008, when I was 58 years old, I was serving as Transport Commissioner. A retired IAS used to live next door to me. He came to me one day and complaint about my other neighbour saying that he does not greet the former IAS anymore. So I spoke with this neighbour who was a little straight forward and said that he does not feel like greeting a retired officer. Two years later when you retire, I will not greet you as well. I was surprised and immediately visualised my future. I felt that if anyone retires from a big position, their humiliation at the hands of society would be more. So I decided to work in a field from which I would never have to retire. After that the almighty made me the first person in the nation who launched 18 regional channels across the nation.”

Education Minister B.D. Kalla, Vice Chancellor Prof. S.S. Sarangdevot, Former Justice of Madras High Court A.P. Sahi, Saint Dr. Vallabhdas Swami, Chancellor Prof. Balwant Rai Johnny, and many other dignitaries were also present. Minister B.D. Kalla, referring to the experiments and achievements made by Dr. Jagdish Chandra in the field of television, said that all this is result of Dr. Chandra’s dedication and hard work.

“No one can become of any value without education. I congratulate Jagdeesh Chandra ji for achieving this feat,” the Education Minister said.
