IIT Jodhpur researchers develop self-cleaning coating for solar panels
Jodhpur. Researchers of the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur have developed a coating technique for easy and clean cleaning of solar panel surfaces. This coating will retain the power generation capacity of the solar panel. In western Rajasthan, which is considered to be the hub of solar energy, due to sandstorms, the soil gets frozen in the solar panels. This affects power generation. In fact, these panels have to be cleaned constantly for solar companies to extract maximum power output. Fellow (PMRF), Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Jodhpur has sent it for patent approval. These coatings are transparent, scalable, durable and superhydrophobic. This selfcleaning coating has been developed by the principal investigator, Dr. Ravi K. R., Associate Professor & Head, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Jodhpur and team members Meignanamoorthi G, Project Assistant and Mohit Singh, Research Scholar & Prime Minister’s Research.
