I am grateful to Prez, PM for choosing me for this cardinal position, says GC Kataria

Guwahati: Gulab Chand Kataria, 78, was sworn in as the 31st Governor of Assam on February 22. Kataria was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Gauhati High Court’s Chief Justice Sandeep Mehta at a brief ceremony at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra here.

Kataria, who was LoP in Raj, succeeded Jagadish Mukhi who demitted office on Sunday after completing his term. The swearingin ceremony was attended by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, his Cabinet colleagues, senior officials of State govt, and Raj BJP leaders.

Kataria arrived with his wife Anita here on Tuesday, and they were accorded a warm welcome by State ministers, government officials and Raj Bhavan officials. Kataria said, “It is an honour to take the oath of office of the Governor of a beautiful State like Assam at a place named after the greatest Vaishnavite Saint Srimanta Sankardev. I will certainly carry out my responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution with utmost honesty and sincerity. I convey my heartfelt gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi for choosing me for this cardinal position to serve the people of Assam.”

Before taking charge as the Governor of the State Shri Kataria visited Kamakhya Temple and offered puja to goddess Kamakhya for the welfare of all sections of the people of the State.
