Guv emphasizes knowledge for national prosperity
Jodhpur: Governor and Chancellor Kalraj Mishra delivered an inspiring address at the 20th convocation ceremony of Jai Narain Vyas University (JNVU) in Jodhpur on Friday. Emphasizing the role of universities in shaping not only exceptional students but also future citizens, Mishra highlighted the importance of utilizing knowledge for the prosperity and wealth of the nation.
He urged students to develop a broad-minded outlook and take a pledge to work not just for themselves but for the welfare of all living beings. Stressing the supremacy of the Constitution, Mishra called for awareness of both rights and duties among students.
In his speech, Mishra acknowledged the significance of the convocation coinciding with International Yoga Day. He praised yoga as a great Indian tradition that has earned global recognition for the country as a world teacher, and as a vital practice for achieving a healthy body and mind.
Mishra also discussed the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes practical courses in vocational and life skills education along with academic knowledge in higher education.
During the ceremony, Mishra awarded degrees and medals to a large number of students. In total, 4,838 postgraduate degrees were conferred across various faculties, including Arts, Commerce, Law, Engineering, and Science. Additionally, undergraduate degrees were awarded to 35,240 Arts students, 4,594 Commerce students, 1,033 Law students, 583 Engineering students, and 5,544 Science students. The ceremony also saw the awarding of 168 PhDs and 73 gold medals to top-performing students. These medals included 69 university medals, one Chancellor’s medal, and three donor medals.
The event began with a collective reading of the Preamble and fundamental duties of the Constitution, instilling a sense of civic responsibility and national pride among the attendees.
