Dholpur: 3 electrocuted at a Muharram procession

Dholpur: Four young men got electrocuted while one got seriously injured in Dholpur district during a tajia procession near Shergarh Fort in Karbala on Sunday. Movin, 25, Anwar, 19, and Rehan, 18, died during treatment, while Waseem, 18, is still under care for burn injuries, police said.

The youths got electrocuted with a 11,000 KV wire. After the accident, the four youths were brought to the district hospital. Doctors gave CPR to all four but only Wasim regained consciousness.

Later, people of the Muslim community gathered near the hospital and protested demanding compensation along with the suspension of electricity department employees for negligence. District Collector along with SP Manoj Kumar and police from about eight police stations reached the spot.

When the local leaders failed to persuade the people to stop the protest, a JEN and a lineman were suspended. Later, the SP sent two policemen to police lines on the demand of the protesters.The administration also announced compensation on the spot after which the protests stopped.
