Bullied by locals, family exhumes woman’s body, shifts to another place

Barmer: After getting a threat from local villagers, a family in Barmer has exhumed the body of an old woman from the grave and shifted it from the graveyard to another location.

Villagers have threatened the victim family that if they did not do so, they would ostracise the family.

After which the body, which was cremated three days ago, was shifted to the backyard of the victim family.

Meanwhile, fearing threats from the locals, the victim has not lodged any complaint.

Lokbandhu Yadav, district collector in Barmer said that the case has come to his knowledge from local media. District collector said that he did not get any official complaint but ordered the officials concerned to take stock of the incident.

According to the information, Ansi Devi (90), died on June 27. Following the rituals, she was buried in the village’s graveyard.

But locals have opposed it and forced the family the members to shift the body somewhere else.

Deceased grandson Jogendra told the media that locals threatened them that if they did not do so, they would ostracise the family.

He said that following threats from the locals, three days later on June 29 they shifted the body from the graveyard to their backyard.
