Advocates told to facilitate fair mediation processes

Pali: Supreme Court judge PS Narasimha on Sunday emphasized the pivotal role of advocates in becoming arbitrators and mediators to resolve cases effectively. He stressed that advocates, when acting as mediators, should set aside their advocacy role to facilitate fair mediation processes. Given the rising case load in both High Courts and the Supreme Court, he underscored the importance of promoting mediation and arbitration, particularly in commercial disputes, to alleviate the burden on the judiciary.He was speaking at the closing ceremony of a workshop themed ‘Arbitration and Mediation - From Present to Future’ in Pali.

Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court MM Shrivastava highlighted the value of the workshop for young advocates, providing them with new insights into mediation and arbitration as potent alternatives to litigation.He encouraged preemptive mediation efforts before cases proceed to court.

The two-day legal conference was organised as part of the Platinum Jubilee Mahotsav celebrating 75 years of the Rajasthan High Court. Organized by the Indian Law Institute Rajasthan Chapter, the conference was also attended by Supreme Court Judge Justice Sandeep Mehta and Rajasthan High Court Judges Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Dinesh Mehta.
