100,000 trees to be felled for power plant in Baran’s forests
Baran: Preparations are underway to cut over 100,000 trees for a private power plant in the dense forests of the Shahabad region in Baran district. The Union Ministry of Forest and Environment has granted permission for this action, with tree felling expected to begin within the next six months.
This will impact the biodiversity of the protected forest area and put wildlife at risk. At the same time, the beauty of the lush, forested valley could become a thing of the past. Notably, the state govt had designated 17,884 hectares of Shahabad as a protected forest area two years back. The project will utilize approximately 700 hectares of land, of which 400 hectares is forested.
