WORLD PARROT DAY HAPPY GO LUCKY BIRD

World Parrot Day is celebrated on May 31 every year which highlights the threats that parrots face in the wild. This day was founded by the World Parrot Trust (WPT) which was established to protect parrots through conservation and welfare programmes. It not only includes wild parrots but also deals with captive parrots worldwide.

Parrots are very intelligent birds hence they make excellent entertaining pets. Apart from this fact, there are a variety of reasons to go for a parrot as a pet. Studies show that parrots have advanced abilities and they can solve problems and communicate well with people. They can even understand human-constructed academic concepts such as mathematics, shapes and colours because they possess reasoning skills equal to that of a 7-year-old child. These are interactive birds and can be taught new tricks easily without much grooming.

Parrots maintain their hygiene as well as beauty on their own and preen their feathers daily. Preening is a method that birds use to remove dust, dirt and parasites from their feathers. They also align each feather in an optimal position which looks great. They are low maintenance pets and they eat relatively small portions throughout the day. It might vary from parrot to parrot but the average diet is ¼ to ½ cup of pellets per day which can be combined with fresh fruits, vegetables and seeds.

Probably this healthy diet makes them live relatively longer than other popular pets such as cats and dogs. You might get a lifelong companion which is easy to train. They crave attention from their owners hence training them is a treat.

Parrots can easily be taught how to mimic and identify colours. They even catch language and behaviours quicker than one can expect. They are also very loving and social by nature. They love to snuggle and cuddle with their owners. They can even inflict self-harm if not given proper attention. They are welcome in all the places that you visit.

They are great dance partners and easily cohabitate with other pets. They are funny and become the centre of attention. They love to watch TV with their owners. They are great friends and require a great deal of time and attention.
